Northern Kentucky Health Department

Accounting Manager

Responsible for the oversight of the accounting division of the Health Department, managing all financial operations, including purchasing, payroll, general ledger, and accounts payable. Supervises a team of four accounting specialists to ensure accuracy and compliance with organizational policies and regulations.

City of Covington

Senior Accounting Manager

At the City of Covington, I lead a team of three Staff Accountants and one Payroll Specialist, overseeing the Payroll and Financial Accounting functions within our Finance department. 

  • Reviewing and approving weekly journal entries.
  • Training & Coaching Staff on proper controls and accounting methods.

One of the primary reasons I was hired at the City of Covington was to assist the current Finance Director in improving the quality of monthly financial reporting. 

In the first three months of my employment, I accomplished the following:

  • Developed a new spreadsheet for monthly trial balance reviews. This spreadsheet utilizes multiple Excel formulas to arrange data in a way that is simple for staff to monitor their assigned funds.
  • Implemented a “soft” close to ensure that monthly journal entries were completed before the preparation of financial reports.
  • Made several modifications to our Payroll systems to accurately reflect wage expenses and to eliminate the need for monthly reclasses.

University of Kentucky

Endowment and Gift Accounting Manager

The UKY Endowment Services division is responsible for the accounting and administration of over 2000 University Endowments. As the Endowment &  Gift Accounting Manager, I was responsible for supervising two Financial Accountants in the daily processing of university gifts and distributing quarterly and annual endowment reports.

  • Performed monthly endowment accounting to distribute investment income, gains/losses, and fees to each endowment.
  • Presented quarterly endowment analysis to the Controller and Treasurer
  • Preparation of quarterly endowment board reports (investment)
  • Prepared analysis for endowment-related sections of the University’s financial statements
  • Reconciled university gifts between SAP and the Philanthropy system.
  • Prepared and led annual endowment utilization meetings with all colleges.
  • During my time at the University of Kentucky, I used my advanced Excel skills to create several new spreadsheets that automated many of our report-gathering processes.
  • Created a form using Excel VBA which greatly enhanced our accountant’s ability to log new endowments quickly and efficiently.

Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority

Manager of Financial Reporting & Payroll

IHCDA is a component unit of the State of Indiana. Our financial accounting team was responsible for the reporting and accounting of over 25 federal and state grant programs. I began my employment with IHCDA as a Financial Accountant. In October 2019, I was promoted to Payroll Manager. In February of 2020, I was promoted to Manager of Financial Reporting and Payroll. Each promotion was supervisor-initiated and led to increased responsibilities. 

  • Maintained fixed asset schedules and posted monthly depreciation entries.
  • Prepared and posted monthly payroll allocation entries to distribute costs to each program.
  • Produced, reviewed, and distributed monthly
    and quarterly budget reports and financial statements.
  • Assisted the Controller with annual budget
    and financial statement preparation.
  • As Payroll Manager, I initiated and managed the transition of our employee timekeeping and benefits information from an external system to our existing payroll system (Paycom). This saved time and created a better employee experience.
  • After watching our accountants struggle with deadlines, I took the initiative to learn Microsoft Integration Manager and created new integrations that allowed us to automate the reconciliation of two of our largest bank statements.
2017 - 2018

Gainwell Technologies (formally DXC Technology)

Healthcare Accountant - Lead

At DXC, I gained first-hand experience in the “Receivables” side of accounting. I began my employment there as a Financial Analyst – Lead, where I was responsible for the supervision of a team of three accounts receivable analysts.

In April 2018, I was promoted to Healthcare Accountant–Lead and given additional responsibilities. 

  • Weekly monitoring of over $70 Million in outstanding A/R Balances.
  • Prepared monthly receivable reports for client review.
  • Performed research and analysis to resolve A/R-related inquires.
  • Trained and coached A/R analyst to improve A/R turnover rate.
  • Under my supervision, our accounts receivable team achieved an 86% reduction in aged receivable balances in one year.
  • Designed and directed the development of a new module within our custom-made Medicaid management system (CoreMMIS) which allowed us to “mass apply” checks to customer accounts.

Accounting Clerk II

 My role at Hoosier Motor Club laid the foundation for my accounting career. It was there that I honed my academic knowledge by applying it to real-world scenarios. Under the guidance of experienced leaders, I mastered critical accounting skills like account reconciliations and proper bookkeeping practices. This strong foundation has equipped me to excel in various accounting tasks and contribute effectively to any team.

  • Reconciled several balance sheet accounts – including the largest bank statement.
  • Accountable for preparing and posting journal entries for daily membership income.
  • Processed weekly and bimonthly contractor payments.
  • Responsible for year-end 1099 preparation
  • Maintained record of unearned revenue and posted deferral entries.
  • Stayed up to date with IRS regulations to ensure accurate and timely filing of information returns.
  • Assisted the Accounting Supervisor in correcting the long-standing imbalance in one of our suspense accounts by developing a more efficient and streamlined way to reconcile.
  • Reduced the reconciliation time of our largest insurance commission statement from several weeks to two days by moving us from a manual process to an automated one. I accomplished this by learning and taking advantage of an existing feature within our Applied Epic software which allowed us to upload reconciliations by mapping to an Excel file.
  • During my time at Hoosier Motor Club, I worked directly with management on various special projects requiring complex data analysis and research.

I earned my MBA from Boston University's Questrom School of Business, completing an enriching online program that brought together world-class BU faculty and a diverse cohort of students from around the globe. This immersive experience significantly enhanced my expertise in Finance, Marketing, and Leadership.

My time at Indiana Wesleyan University further broadened my accounting knowledge. There I delved deeper into advanced accounting concepts such as auditing and taxation, and took higher-level courses that solidified my expertise in the field.

Associate of Applied Science, Accounting

I received my foundational accounting education from Ivy Tech Community College. It was there that I learned Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Cost Accounting, amongst other things. During my time there, I gained first hand experience with accounting software (Sage) and enhanced my proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
